Rock Sockets
Innovative Drilling is able to reach out over the water to install piles and to drill rock sockets in a single pass. The company has used a crane-mounted drilling system which can perform single pass drilling in water depths of up to 100 feet and drill holes with diameters as large as 36 inches.
Rock sockets were drilled for battered piles. Pier 17, St. John's, Newfoundland.
12 inch diameter rock sockets were drilled inside 30 inch diameter piles. This took place 100 feet below the water surface. Pier 17, St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Case Study – Rock sockets were needed in Harvey’s Offshore Wharf in St. John’s Harbour. Problematic seamy rock surrounded the wharf, so Innovative Drilling brought in a Stradex drilling system. The Stradex defeats geological challenges by advancing the casing and the hole simultaneously. Innovative Drilling successfully installed the drilled rock sockets on time and on budget.
